Our Story
Our story began in 2001 when Mike and Sally Tyler started Tyler Machine from the family garage while they were raising three young children. With only a Bridgeport and a small press, Tyler Machine focused on building a customer base while delivering precision tooling and small-batch sheet metal jobs. Leaving the garage, the first expansion was to Tolland, CT, where the company evolved into Toolmax Designing & Tooling, Inc. in 2008.
With more modern equipment, Toolmax expanded its manufacturing versatility to provide more innovative and effective solutions for clients. Today, we excel at a balance of high-mix, low-volume production runs as well as high volume long-term contracts, utilizing lean manufacturing concepts for continuous operational improvement. In 2021, Toolmax achieved AS9100 certification, reinforcing our commitment to excellence in aerospace manufacturing.
Now operating out of a modern facility in Ashford, CT, we employ over 20 skilled and dedicated team members. Leveraging decades of expertise and cutting-edge technology, we deliver top-quality manufacturing solutions while remaining committed to serving our clients with integrity and precision.
Our Site
Since 2019, Toolmax has operated from a modern facility strategically located right off I-84 in Ashford, CT, in the heart of Aerospace Alley—just 30 minutes from Hartford. Spanning 10 acres, we offer 10,000 square feet of dedicated manufacturing space along with 2,000 square feet of office space. Our facility features 12 presses for production, including press brakes and a 200-ton hydraulic press, as well as 9 CNC machines comprised of 2 five-axis, 3 three-axis, and 4 Bridgeports equipped with Prototraks. We prioritize quality with our on-site lab, which is outfitted with precision equipment, including a CMM and optical comparator, to ensure every project meets the highest standards.
